A Preview by Kavita Chhibber

“I realized that giving is something that no one can take away from you. The rewards of giving go far beyond money and material things. Giving is something you will be able to take with you wherever you go for the rest of your life."

Perhaps the significance of these words by Robin Raina who heads the Raina Foundation, a young charity, that has taken some mature and measured steps to bring hope and help to underprivileged women and children in India and other countries, is not lost on many celebrities. Many have adopted children supported by Raina Foundation; others have gone one step ahead and lent their voice or immense talent to the cause by participating in shows hosted by the Foundation.

On 17 June at the gorgeous Fox Theater, Asha Bhosle, Sonu Nigam, Kailash Kher and Kunal Ganjawala will come together for an evening of stellar music in a charity concert.

When the lights dim the voice shines and so does Asha Bhosle- for over six decades, the legendary diva has enthralled, mesmerized and enchanted generations of music lovers. Her voice and her persona still retains its sultry sensuality, it freshness, its melodious perfection and pitch. Asha has said that she has worked for years to create a voice and a style that was different from her legendary sister Lata Mangeshkar, so that she could carve her own niche and not be banished to live in her shadow. Every time she comes here she goes on to show just how well she has succeeded in her efforts, as she enthralls the audience with numbers that showcase the ageless quality of her voice. She says in her message to fans in Atlanta that she loves being part of the Robin Raina Foundation’s initiative to help underprivileged women and children and also endorses shelters for the aged. She wants to see Atlantans turn out in large numbers and will entertain and rock the crowd to the best of her ability. She is very eagerly waiting to be there. This is the last show of the tour and she hopes everyone will join her at the Fox and have fun.

Sonu Nigam, the sensation from Faridabad, left home at 18 to pursue his dream of becoming a singer. He had to struggle for a while, trying to study by correspondence courses, doing bit roles in films to make ends meet and trying to get a break in Bollywood’s music industry. He finally hit it big with his song, Acha sila diya tune mere pyar ka” from the movie “ Bewafa Sanam”. Perhaps more than his music, it was the popular TV show “Saregama” that turned him in to a TV icon. Now with private albums, the cream of the music directors wooing him to sing for them, a budding movie career, live shows, fame, fortune Sonu Nigam has it all. He rocked the stage last year in the foundation’s charity concert which was sold out and says that Atlanta’s audience has always been very appreciative and because of the reviews of his previous tour, the current tour is going very well. He promises to entertain everyone with some thing new and exciting this year.

Kailash Kher’s musical journey has taken him to the road that leads to the soulful music of maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Making a smashing entry into the hearts of many with Allah Ke Bande, Kher’s album Kailasa has taken the Indian music world by storm. Kailash says he is going to give it his all at the show-for him Nusrat was the messenger of God and not just a musician par excellence. Expect to be transported to a mystical and musical journey as Kailash Kher takes the stage.

Who can forget Kunal Ganjawala’s mega hit-Bheege Honth Tere, from the film Murder? It still ranks as a hot favorite amongst teeny boppers. Ganjawala hasn’t looked back since then and has sung for many major Bollywood films, the latest being Salam-e-Ishq.

It’s a show for every music lover, in every age group. It will also be our way to contribute to a noble cause for which Robin Raina and his volunteers have worked very hard.

See you at the Fox Theatre on the 17th of June!
