Robin Raina lauded for philanthropy
Atlanta Business Chronicle - May 19, 2008- Robin Raina, president
and CEO of Atlanta-based Ebix Inc., has been honored as the
"South Asian Personality of the Year" in a recently
held event in New York hosted by Sony Entertainment Television
Asia and sponsored by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Sam's Club.
Raina won the award for excellence in social service and
business. His Robin Raina Foundation has adopted more than
3,500 children across the Indian subcontinent and built 6,000
homes free for the underprivileged. And he has taken Ebix
(NASDAQ: EBIX) -- developer and supplier of software and e-commerce
products to the insurance industry -- from a $19 million loss
in 1999 to a profit of $12.7 million in 2007.
"I dedicate this award to the hundreds of millions
of underprivileged people in the world who struggle to provide
their family a single meal every day," Raina said. "Poverty
knows no boundaries of race, religion, color or geographies.
Poverty has become the single largest religion in the world
today transcending all these boundaries. The developed world
and each one of us who are fortunate in terms of wealth, need
to make strong efforts to eradicate poverty from the world
map."
